Mavrovouni is a sandy beach stretching for several kilometers, just outside Gythio. It is suitable for swimming and water sports, as the waves often attract surfers. The bay offers limited natural protection, and the beach faces south.
The beach faces south. With northerly winds the air flows offshore and the water near the shore stays flat; with southerly winds the sea builds up waves onto the beach. The coast is exposed to the open sea, so conditions change quickly with the wind.
The shore faces south (170°), so from December to December the sun sets within its field of view, over the water. In the remaining seasons the sunset falls further to the side, over land.
An estimate based on the orientation of the shore — a headland or island opposite may hide the horizon.
In calm seas yes, but the water gets deep fairly quickly — normal supervision applies.
On days with northerly (offshore) winds or no wind at all. Check the live score on Beach Radar before you go — it updates all day.
Yes — sunbeds, umbrellas and food options operate during the summer season.
